Stream Skrillex and MIA’s collaboration, ‘Go Off’

After a truncated preview of MIA and Skrillex’s collaboration, “Go Off,” surfaced last month, fans have clamored for the production’s release – and understandably so. Beyond the automatic excitement that arises when two artists of such momentous status join forces, a partnership between Skrillex and MIA was expected to be compellingly compatible. After her meteoric rise to fame with the Diplo-produced “Paper Planes,” it would logically follow suit that MIA’s brazen vocals would meld well atop a production by the other half of Jack Ü. Conversely, some of Skrillex’s most accessible tracks feature vocal lines from female rappers (“Bangarang,” “Kyoto,” and “Dirty Vibe” all come to mind).Now available to fully stream, the combination between the MIA’s distinct Sri Lankan presence and Skrillex’s chameleonic production abilities does not disappoint. “Go Off” is more subdued than Skrillex’s aforementioned collaborations with Sirah and CL. MIA’s vocals are the core focus of the song, while Skrillex’s production provides strong, but subtle, foundational support.  The soft quarter-tones of Skrillex’s synthesis and the thumping variance of his percussion, provide an extremely well-suited backdrop to MIA’s signature vocal stylizations.“Go Off” also acts as an interesting counterpoint to ‘Paper Planes,” offering implicit insights into the inspirations of Jack Ü’s
